Subversion in Cyberspace – F.A.T. Lab in Academia

We just stumbled across a Case Study about F.A.T. Lab by Axelle Van Wynsberghe. It was published in 2017, in the field of “Cultural Studies & Social Anthropology”.

The case study is titled “The ‘Malign Torsion’ of the Hyperreal: Simulation & Subversion in Cyberspace“.
Interviewees were F.A.T. members Evan, Magnus, Randy and Tina.

Did F.A.T. Lab’s hacktivist tactics wield the media’s own logic against itself, or reinforce the simulational logic of the system they were attempting to topple? F.A.T. Lab and Baudrillard’s strategies of total defeat are the only effective strategies in combating the simulacrum and the Internet as a structure of power.

Ok, I admit I had to ChatGPT what a simulacrum was. But cool to find this 50-page case study on our work. Thanks Axelle!
